I just saw this post over at Paper Crave and was instantly taken by the artwork. It combines three of my favorite loves, interior design, colors and graphic design. The ad is for Sherwin Williams by McKinney and features the work of “paper constructionist” Matthew Sporzynski. I love how inovative and effective these ads are, but I love the artistry of the actual work too. I would love to get a hold of some printed versions of these ads so I could frame them and keep them for inspiration.

I also love the commercials that were created by Buck

In honor of Cinco de mayo, I thought I would post about the FABULOUS party that my friends Mickey and Kelly VonHemert threw for their 10th wedding anniversary. As a couple, they LOVE Mexico. The food, the decor, the local, so much so that they even had their wedding there 10 years ago! So in celebration, they themed their party after the festive Hispanic street parties including a taco bar, mariachis and papel picado as decor. I was lucky enough to design the invitations which had the papel picado in the design.

Kelly has an amazing food blog GalleyGirl so of course the food and drinks were delish. Mickey has a flair for design so the party was so colorful and festive and all of the details were amazingly pulled together. It was a great party and I was proud to be invited.

I am working on a new packaging design for a company I freelance for and so I have been looking all over the intertnet for ideas. I came across “ilovedust” from a couple of blogs, sfgirlbybay which introduced me to grainedit which FINALLY introduced me to UK graphic design company ILOVEDUST. They have done some amazing packaging and design projects and I can’t have gotten inspired enough.
My favorites are the milk packaging, I love the colors they have used. The animal font would be so cute to use for an invitation or baby announcement! And really, wouldn’t those pear and apple labels be such a fun idea to change to a lemon and put on pink lemonade bottles for a shower?

Wouldn’t you be so excited to get a shirt like this as a package? The way they have wrapped it plays homage to the fact that their design studio is located in an old meat packing building. So creative!

I was an art major in college. I got to take really cool art classes like illustration and printmaking and some I wasn’t as fond of like life drawing. And, with all those artistic classes, came the love of the hand drawn. I am always on the lookout for inexpensive art, but I just found Feed Your Soul: The Free Art Project that offers free downloads from popular artists that is updated monthly. Downloads are free for personal use allowing you to print them at home. Wouldn’t these look great in a nursery or kids room?

I love paper. I really do. I have fun going to the wholesale paper store and just browsing the aisle looking and feeling all the new stacks of freshly delivered paper. It might go back to when I had my first “real” job and worked for a small printing company. And, now, since I have my own stationery company you would think that I would be an amazing letter writer. That maybe, in part of my office, I would have stacks and stacks of custom cards in every style and color to fit my mood. And that being a good mom, I would have passed this love of paper and writing down to my kids and that they would find any excuse to write a note to someone. Sadly, it hasn’t worked that way. Unfortunately something get’s lost between my collections and the mailbox.
So I am determined to fix it. In this day of email and evites I still think that a handwritten note is highly appreciated. What child doesn’t still get excited when seeing a letter addressed to themselves in the mailbox! I know for that matter, that my heart skips a beat when I realize I have a note, not junk mail waiting for me. Today, I made my kids their own stationery, printed out address labels AND went to the post office to buy stamps. No excuses now!

I have a friend who is amazingly talented. Not only does she take care of her two young children, but she has this amazing spanish style house that her husband and her built (yes, physically put muscle into building it), she builds furniture (I can’t wait to show you her daughters doll house bed) and she throws great parties. Just remember, everything you are about to see as part of this shower, she did herself. She made and decorated the cake (looks like she is turning into a master of fondant), and she made the really cute sheep cake pops as favors. I love the black and white theme with pops of lemon drop yellow, GREAT summer colors, perfect for any shower or party. Our customized baby shower invites and party favor labels go great with this party!

I loved how even the mother-to-be came dressed in theme with the yellow and black outfit and great polka-dot nails!
You can find instructions for the sheep cake pops at the fun site Bakerella.

It is with a sad heart that I am saying goodbye to LeeAnn. After working with her for three years, she has decided to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with her family, especially during the holidays! I have had so much fun with her dreaming and developing, Kite Notes wouldn’t be where it is today without her.
So, that left me with a big decision… close up shop, or keep on printing. I wasn’t ready to close the doors on our small business because I LOVE what I do and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye. I love all things design and I love paper and when the two come together it makes me happy, it calms me. So instead of moving on, I am hoping to get this business pumping with new designs, new products and best of all a new blog! I hope to inspire you to decorate, throw a fabulous party or just introduce you to some great design, in all forms. Check back often to see what inspires me to create, organize and dream!
